The pair hit the ground running with their "Tango Loca" project! They have been members since 2019 and are now known in the community as visionaries who are constantly whirling with new activities and collaborations, as well as their own formats. They answered some interesting questions for us about Tango Loca, but also about their individual work. Two inspiring people who go out and dance for their ideas, carry their values and social ideas into the world through their realisation and personality and encourage their fellow human beings to participate: exactly as they are. But enough now, read for yourself:
Dear Uwe, dear Doro - you are both involved in different projects at the Creative Hub, would you like to tell us about them?
After a lot of tinkering and planning, we founded the Tango Loca Comunidad in May, creating a space for dance encounters at eye level. Since then, we have met twice a month in the Creative Hub Café with beginners and advanced dancers to experiment together. We get great feedback for our innovative approach, so we are becoming more and more self-confident as teachers and organisers and are growing together with the participants.
Doro: Since October 2021, I have been working inclusively with Neele Buchholz, a well-known dancer and actress with Down syndrome: entrepreneurially on her self-employment and dancers in the "Choreo Lab" with accompanied self-determined decision-making. We have our first performance in Berlin in September.
Uwe: The Social Impact Lab Bremen has been using rooms for meetings and events since September 2019. We provide start-up advice for social enterprises that want to make the world a little better.
Your vision in three sentences:
Exchange and rapprochement, connection and communication, passion and dedication: that is Tango Argentino, probably the most sensual of all couple dances. We want to honour this centuries-old world cultural heritage and at the same time integrate it into the modern age with joy and ease: by changing roles, mixing classical and alternative music and with influences from other dances such as Zouk, Kizomba and Contact Improvisation.
Is there a principle/ a guiding principle that lives in all your projects?
Everyone is an expert on their own body. We want to create spaces of self-efficacy in which all people experience and realise their abilities and potential.
What motivates you / What drives you?
Dancing makes you happy, liberates you and energises you. We love to connect through dance, to fool around, to improvise and to tease out from every kind of music and dance that which constantly reinvents the tango and turns it on its head. We want to share these experiences with other people and keep exploring new paths together.
Tango Loca- Crazy tango dancing, spontaneous inspiration or a long-planned concept?
We have spent months dancing around and collating many of our long-cherished thoughts. The two of us tried out how the classic concepts could be rethought and finally wrote down what constitutes our own philosophy. At the same time, we repeatedly sought inspiration from other teachers and events, scrutinised our theories and developed them further.
How did you experience the dance get-together at the Hub? How would you describe the participants?
We experience an infinite openness to embracing new ideas, making contact, experimenting and broadening horizons. The participants are curious, show us a lot of respect and approach our proposed exercises with courage, joy and passion. We also receive a great deal of appreciation in return.
Who would you recommend Tango Loca to and why?
To all people who actually want to dance as a couple, but have so far shied away from it due to prejudices, worries or stereotypes. And to all those who already have dance experience and enjoy dancing together in an innovative space and getting a taste of Argentina. Everything is different here and we are constantly developing our programme with feedback from participants. Get involved and help us shape the couple dance of tomorrow!
Which offers of help, resources and opportunities have particularly supported you in your career?
Finding a space is a big challenge when you want to create a nice, low-threshold place to meet and exercise. We have found such a place in the Creative Hub Café and, thanks to the affordable room rent, we can also enable people with little money to participate.
Which cooperation partners support your mission and how did this come about?
We feel particularly supported by the many experienced tango dancers who come to the Milocas to share their experience with inexperienced dancers and thus grow together.
What three tips would you like to give new members? What have you learnt here at the Hub?
Daring to try something new can be rewarded quickly. Along the way, you need a good dose of humour when things don't go as quickly as you'd hoped and an open mind to keep adjusting your course.
How important is community for you? Can you tell us one thing you have learnt from the community?
An open community, like the Tango Loca Comunidad, can change society as such. Places that bring together different people with similar visions are essential: Synergy! And it needs people who hold and maintain these spaces.
What does "having a vision" mean to you?
Visions have a magical power, an uncanny pull. They are guiding stars into a new world. Be careful what visions you express, they could come true.
And now to the last question: Why Bremen?
Rough and warm, long-established and alternative, dirty and colourful. Bremen is a contradictory city worth living in. Big enough for a diverse cultural programme and small enough for deep-rooted togetherness.
