The artistic explorations focus on biodiversity, species extinction, Charles Darwin, art, and technology.
„Classifications are always about rules, or about recognising, naming and understanding the similarities and differences of a species. (…) Recognising patterns, understanding the world and systematising it in order to survive., explains Heike in her opening speech on 31 March.
The exhibited works of art seem to help us grasp the complexity of biodiversity in all areas of life in colour and form, whilst at the same time highlighting the impossibility of universal systematisation. The curious viewer is invited to embark on a ramble through the variations and interpretations of the title, and we promise you: you are sure to discover one or two surprises among the diverse ways of interpretation!
In terms of content, the works shown in the exhibition can be grouped in various ways:
For one, there is the Wildlife. Here worked Hildegunde Krahwinkel, Heiner Stickann, Monika Blum and Heike Koerbers, Carola Bula, Claudia Berg Hummelt, Cosima Schierenbec, Rosi Fein and Birgit Heimburg.
Images of humanity we encounter in the work by Judith Dannemann, Felix Busse, Lasse Röhls, Karin Bredow, Huong Ly Bui and Brigitte Ogiolda. Also Dörte Schmidt and Heiko Ahrens.
Another question in the room is: Is what I see true, or do I see what is true? Thus entire fantasy landscapes emerge, such as in Birgit Heimburg's or the work of Ines Lemmer and Claudia Berg-Hummelt, Inge Koepsell, Brigitte Ogiolda, which deal with human sight and perception. But Karin Bredow also considers the history of art.
Furthermore, of course, is also the flora represent Inge Koepsell, Ines Lemmer, Heike Seyffarth explore colours and shapes.
However, this diversity is reflected not only in the thematic focus of the artwork, but also manifests itself on a craft level: from classical drawings, painting and photography to upcycling and ceramic pieces – the exploration of the theme opened up a near-infinite scope for creativity.
You will see: the second art exhibition is more than diverse. But what would art be without the viewer? So come along in person!
The exhibition is an initiative of the Visionskultur art and culture cluster which, as one of seven cluster areas, aims to network Bremen’s creative landscape and economy. By bringing together various stakeholders and projects, the goal is to support both individual practitioners and the location as a whole. Bringing the different art and culture projects together in one space generates synergies that can also be utilised beyond the sector. The intention is to open up and embed the individual projects within a dynamic and constantly evolving community of people from a wide variety of working backgrounds.
P.S. What actually is the ProKunst 2022 initiative group?
ProKunst is a selection of works by students and graduates of the „Gestaltende Kunst“ continuing education programme, which for over twenty years has provided numerous interested individuals in Bremen with the opportunity to receive comprehensive training, further education and professional development in artistic theory and practice. The exhibits showcase a wide range of ideas in the exploration of contemporary themes, as well as numerous techniques learned and further developed—not least thanks to an extensive curriculum. These techniques are employed by the participants to make socially relevant issues open to discussion through artistic forms of expression.
