In our series „Member Portraits“, we introduce you to committed people from the Visionskultur community – today it is a woman who works with passion, creativity and heart for a sustainable future. We would like to introduce you to Deniz Cavide, climate protection coordinator in Vahr and initiator of the Klimanetz project.
From biologist to climate protection coordinator
Deniz’s path to climate action is characterised by expertise, commitment and the courage to forge new paths. Originally from Turkey, she has been living in Germany for four years. She studied biology in her home country – so her love of nature and environmental protection has always been part of her life.
Since a full-time position was out of the question for her as a mother, she decided to undertake further training at the University of Bremen focusing on project development, environment, energy and sustainability. She subsequently worked at Energiekonsens, a Bremen-based organisation for energy efficiency and climate protection. There she finally found her passion project: Klimanetz, funded by the Senator for Environment, Climate and Science.

Making climate action tangible
As climate protection coordinator, Deniz organises numerous free activities and hands-on events in Vahr that make climate action practical and accessible in everyday life. Her goal: to raise awareness, strengthen the community and show that sustainability can be fun.

Deniz is also setting up a local climate protection network. To do this, she deliberately uses public places such as the city library, the community centre, the adult education centre or the church's family neighbourhood centre to connect people, initiatives and institutions.
„I don't have my own business or shop. But I work with many organisations and use spaces that are open to everyone. That way, anyone can take part.“
Climate action with feeling – understanding what we achieve
Deniz feels it is particularly important that climate protection is not just thought of in terms of numbers, but becomes tangible and understandable. In one of her projects, for example, she illustrates the carbon footprint using boxes of different weights:
so visitors can directly experience how heavily certain everyday decisions impact the climate.
„We often hear numbers – 50 or 500 grams of CO₂ – but we can hardly imagine what that means. I want to show what that feels like. That is how climate action becomes concrete and tangible.“
And because small gestures also count, she hands out flower seeds at events – as a symbol of growth, change and the future.
For Deniz, environmental protection was never just a job, but a guiding principle in life. Even during her university days, she occupied herself with ecology and sustainability – themes that have stayed with her ever since.
„I can't even say when climate action became important to me – it was just always there. I'm an environmental biologist, and the environment, climate action and sustainability simply belong together for me.“
