Philipp Eigner’s success story

From the machine to the motif – how Philipp Eigner is rethinking industrial photography

What happens when an engineer picks up a camera – and turns it into a business? When technical expertise meets artistic passion? Then a success story like that of is created Philipp Eigner, who, with his project Philipp Eigner Media Production how industrial photography helps companies present themselves authentically and attractively today.

The step into self-employment: Out of the system, into the shaping of your own future

For many years, Philipp worked as a mechanical engineer – structured, secure, but also driven by others. „I missed having self-determination and realised that I wanted to create something of my own,“ he says today. Photography had long been a part of his life by then, particularly with a focus on urban spaces, industrial culture and subcultures.

Then in 2022 the break: out of employment, time for a realignment. Initial ideas: author activities, stock photography, a travel photography magazine. But over time it became clear: it needs more focus, more clarity. The Creative HUB from Vision culture became an important focal point in the process.

Industrial photography as a connection between the old and new self

Through workshops and networking opportunities in the HUB, a new positioning developed step by step. „I realised that I could combine my photographic work with my technical experience – and that's how the idea came about: industrial photographer.“ Philipp founded Philipp Eigner Media Production, built up his portfolio with targeted shoots and began to establish himself professionally.

What particularly distinguishes him in this regard is his eye for detail – shaped by his engineering mindset – combined with a flair for aesthetics, lines and authenticity. His images do not merely show workplaces, but tell stories about people, processes and corporate culture.

The first major contract – and a new perspective on the market

The moment when it all became real? When, in 2023, after a few small commissions from his network, the first major paid photography project came in via his website – entirely without any face-to-face contact. A real milestone that made it clear: Philipp was already fulfilling the „role of a photographer“ in the eyes of the outside world. Further commissions followed – including work with Vision culture, where he worked as an event photographer.

In 2024 and 2025, his business continued to grow – with enquiries from medium-sized companies, large corporations and even clients from other EU countries. This success is not based on „telephone or field sales, which are often perceived as unpleasant“, but rather on his strong positioning, SEO expertise and authentic approach.

Challenges and personal learnings

One of the biggest internal processes for Philipp was the redefinition of his professional self-image: „From engineer to industrial photographer – I first had to accept that myself.“

Pricing is also an ongoing challenge: „I've learned not to react emotionally and not to lower my prices out of insecurity.“ Exchanging views with colleagues was central to this – supporting one another to keep quality visible and valued.

Exhibitions, artistic profile & future outlook

Alongside commercial photography, Philipp consistently pursues his artistic direction – with projects such as the exhibition fringes. or the photo series Humans of Neue Vahr, which was created in cooperation with Visionskultur. His vision for the future: „I want to be in greater demand for my style – and be able to showcase my artistic signature in the commercial sector too.“

His goal remains clear: visual communication at the highest level, with a sense of sustainability and substance. Companies with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals are particularly important to him.

What he would like to pass on to other founders

„You can reinvent yourself – and not overnight, but in many deliberate steps. You don't have to hustle like it's promoted on social media. If you do high-quality work and use your tools wisely – SEO, AI, communication – you can build a stable income. The key lies in giving yourself a sense of purpose, because no one else is going to do it for you. And that is a huge opportunity.“

Philipp & Visionskultur: A perfect match
