With the Kreativ-Container Neue Vahr, the Visionskultur community, together with GEWOBA and many other actors on the site of the Oberschule an der Kurt-Schumacher-Allee, developed a funded space in the public realm for the implementation of ideas and projects. Exciting initiatives from the district meet creative actions from the start-up environment and the creative scene. In the process, attention is focused on the potential of Vahr in order to develop new ideas.
Together, we want to make the Neue Vahr district a vibrant experience and even more creative. The creative container is intended to offer exciting activities for residents and visitors to the district – especially for young people. Currently, the Arab Women's Association, the Syrian Community of Bremen, and the Vahr climate shop, among others, are continuously activating the container.
Project idea
Matching this, as part of a self-chosen after-school club („Designing the School Wall“), one of our projects, Anton R., is designing the school wall together with a Year 9 class from the Oberschule an der Kurt-Schumacher-Allee until next summer. The entire school wall surrounding the school will first be painted in the colours of the subjects for this. For example, in front of the school's main entrance, you can see the colours red for German and orange for English.
To make the wall look even more attractive, the pupils in the after-school club brainstormed motifs that they associate with the subjects. They sketched these and then turned them into stencils.
Project day on 24/11/2023
Despite the weather, the pupils used the project day to spray their chosen motifs onto the wall as graffiti using the stencils. Equipped with painting smocks, gloves and masks, Anton R. explained to the pupils what to watch out for when spraying to get a good result.
We especially noticed the infectious, friendly manner of Anton R., who was fully motivated and guided the pupils through the project day with joy despite the rain and „work“. He said:
„It is important to spread good cheer, because then it is fun to „have“ to be outside in this weather too. Unfortunately, we are very weather-dependent on this project and today's downpour hasn't made our day any easier. However, we are making the best of it!.
The school wall is not finished yet, but we remain eager to see when the weather will allow the project to continue.
Outlook
There are many exciting projects planned for the future, for example:
Photowalk through the Vahr - in the spring, a photographer from our community, together with a local neighbourhood actor and other interested parties, will walk through the Vahr to capture places with potential as well as the favourite spots of Vahr residents. The results are then to be exhibited in the container.
Humans of Neue Vahr - a community project will portray several citizens of Vahr and have them tell their story. The results of this will also be exhibited in the container.
